Oil Pool with Black

Sun is shining in on a purposeful oil spill…this time it’s stand oil (very thick linseed) with a bit of solvent added.  I “stirred” it with a brush and then made a series of drips around it.  The paper is thick Crescent stock especially made to accept “all” media, they say.  But it’s clear that oil will soak in and bloom out.

Next I mixed in some burnt sienna and ultramarine blue into the middle and allowed it to migrate at will in the puddle of oil.  I took the paint loaded brush and dotted each of my small oil drops with the color mix and then let the whole wet thing sit flat for hours to see what would happen.  The above is what happened!  I love the way the paint granules separated and flowed, and that each form has a halo.  (the oil soaking into the paper.)

Of COURSE I took photographs! *(see happy comment below)

There is one image that I edited in paint.net to reverse the colors.  I like it as much as the image in my header here.  Oil Spill Variation with Browns

*(happy comment)  About photographs:  There is a sort of giddiness that comes with a digital camera.  One can take as many shots as one wishes and not mind whether there is film left! Endless fun then to slip these files into a playground (the photo editing software) and move pixels around and change color and modes around for hours on end.  A toy!
